HI! I'm Claire. I'm 23-years-old and originally from Brisbane, Australia. I recently completed a Bachelor of Business (Marketing - with distinction) at the Queensland University of Technology. Since graduating, I have worked as a marketing assistant for Trojan Timbers and embarked on a round-the-world, working holiday 'gap-two-years' adventure.

I have recently, albeit rather unexpectedly, returned to Sydney and I am currently looking for work in the destination marketing field. I am hoping to obtain a junior marketing/content creation role in order to develop my career in the industry that I am so deeply passionate about.

During my gap years, I have combined my passion for travelling with my skills in content creation to develop my blog into a platform on which I document and share my experiences. I have taken the opportunity to gain inspiration and learn as much as possible from the twenty-four countries I've travelled.

I am always eager to seek new responsibilities and learn new skills in the workplace. I am self-motivated and enjoy taking initiative to achieve better results for the business. I consider myself to be a team player with a “can-do attitude”. I have excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

My career goal is to be a marketing professional in the tourism industry in a role that allows me to foster my passion for travelling.

my skills

I have over 8 years of experience in customer service in a number of varied roles in both Australia and Canada. As a result, I have developed strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.

My marketing roles at Trojan Timbers and Whistler Eco Tours involved me utilising my creativity and technical skills in a range of programs to add value to these small businesses with limited budgets. Seeing the impact of my work on the profitability and brand image of these businesses was incredibly rewarding and exciting.

My experience backpacking solo to over 14 countries has taught me so many valuable skills. I have gained a more enlightened and informed perspective on the world and an appreciation of many different cultures. I have also developed strong skills in problem-solving and gained a strong sense of self-confidence while travelling independently.

Most recently, I moved to Whistler, British Columbia to work as the marketing coordinator for Whistler Eco Tours. In this role, I lead the promotional and social media activity of the company, managed Whistler Eco Tour's presence at events like The Inside Scoop, Canna Golf Classic and the RMOW Block Party and built relationships with hotel concierge, retail and activity providers. Seeing the brochures I designed distributed to stands throughout the village and in every hotel in Whistler was a highlight of the role.

I extended my stay in Whistler and spent the winter managing the marketing for Whistler Eco Tours' winter company - Whistler Executive Transportation.  My proudest achievement was creating the WET 'Resort Information Guide' - an informative folder of personalised Whistler activity, dining, shopping and service recommendations for guests to peruse during their 2-3 hour transfer between Whistler and Vancouver. I initiated partnerships with local businesses to offer our guests discounts with our referral partners.

I also lead the process of re-building and re-designing WET's website: www.whistlerexecutivetransportation.com. I coordinated with our web developer to achieve our goal of building a more user-friendly, informative and visually-appealing site.

While on my gap year, I focused my energy on creating engaging content for my blog. I produced regular blog posts detailing destination itineraries and retelling stories of my adventures. Many of these blog posts achieved high rankings on Google and attracted significant organic search traffic to my blog. I also wrote this article for AuPair World which has been published to thousands of readers on their blog and translated into 5 different languages.

My role at Trojan Timbers led me to work on, and initiate projects to rebrand the company's image. I completely re-designed the company website, wrote blog posts and created engaging direct mail campaigns. I designed and created product brochures using InDesign. Initially, 10,000 copies of my brochures were printed and distributed to floor resellers and prospective clients across Australia.

A highlight of my degree was working within a team to develop a marketing plan for a real client - Brisbane-based jewellery shop Molten Store. My team received a high distinction for our efforts and our recommendations were given to the client to implement.
