HI! I'm Claire. I'm 22-years-old and originally from Brisbane, Australia. I recently completed a Bachelor of Business (Marketing - with distinction) at the Queensland University of Technology. Since graduating, I have worked as a marketing assistant for Trojan Timbers and embarked on a round-the-world, working holiday 'gap-year-and-a-half' adventure.

During my gap year, I have combined my passion for travelling with my skills in content creation to develop my blog into a platform on which I document and share my experiences. I have taken the opportunity to experience and learn as much as possible from the world around me while travelling.

I am always eager to seek new responsibilities and learn new skills in the workplace. I am self-motivated and enjoy taking initiative to achieve better results for the business. I consider myself to be a team player with a “can-do attitude”. I have excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

My career goal is to be a marketing professional in the tourism industry in a role that allows me to foster my passion for travelling.

my skills

I have over 7 years of experience in customer service in a number of varied roles in both Australia and Canada. As a result, I have developed strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.

My role at Trojan Timbers involved me utilising my creativity and technical skills in a range of programs to add value to the business. Seeing the impact of my work on the profitability and brand image of the business was incredibly rewarding and exciting.

My experience backpacking solo to 14 countries has taught me so many valuable skills. I have gained a more enlightened and informed perspective on the world and an appreciation of many different cultures. I have also developed strong skills in problem-solving and gained a strong sense of self-confidence while travelling independently.

my projects

During my degree, I was lucky enough to work on a variety of exciting projects. Most notably, in my last semester, I worked within a team to develop a marketing plan for a real client - Molten Store. My team received a high distinction for our efforts and our recommendations were given to the client to implement.

My role at Trojan Timbers led me to work on, and initiate projects to rebrand the company's image. I completely re-designed the company website, wrote blog posts and created engaging direct mail campaigns. I designed and created product brochures using InDesign. Initially, 10,000 copies of my brochures were printed and distributed to floor resellers and prospective clients across Australia.

Most recently, while on my gap year, I have focused my energy on creating engaging content for my blog. I have produced weekly blog posts detailing destination itineraries and retelling stories of my adventures. I also wrote this article for AuPair World which has been published to thousands of readers on their blog and translated into 5 different languages.

During my time travelling through Central America, I spent a week volunteering in La Fortuna at Costa Rican-based travel company Varco Travel. I assisted with their social media and worked to create engaging and informative content for their blog. I wrote a number of articles for them including: '10 Epic Things You Can Do For Under $26 in and Around La Fortuna', 'You Only Have 3 Days in La Fortuna? Here's How You Should Spend It' and '5 Reasons Why La Fortuna Needs to be on Your Costa Rican Itinerary'.

More recently, I have spent the summer in Whistler, British Columbia working as the marketing coordinator for Whistler Eco Tours. In this role, I lead the promotional and social media activity of the company, managed Whistler Eco Tour's presence at events like The Inside Scoop, Canna Golf Classic and the RMOW Block Party and built relationships with hotel concierge, retail and activity providers. Seeing the brochures I designed distributed to stands all around the village and at each hotel in Whistler was a sure highlight of the role.

Opportunities like this have enabled me to gain experience beneficial to my career in an industry I'm passionate about whilst I continue my gap-year (now two!) working holiday around the world.
